Huband Park School is an awesome place!  It is set in a lovely area of Courtenay, BC on Vancouver Island, about 1 km off the Old Island Highway and 400 m off Huband Rd. … secluded, peaceful, quiet, green!!.

We are bordered on virtually 3 of 4 sides by forest.  The fourth side (East) consists of the back yards, of about 4 nice homes on large lots on Willis Way.  We have immediate access in the northeast corner of our playground to a system of forest trails which link up to the Seal Bay Regional Park ... and ultimately the ocean (about a 60 to 80 minute hike for a group of students).  We have a salmon bearing stream (Finlay Creek) running through the property on the west side of the school building.  Our grounds and surroundings are home to a number of black tailed deer, rabbits, crows, ravens, red-tailed hawks (our school mascot), bald eagles, ducks, and other smaller birds.  We are infrequently visited by black bears, a wolf or two, and potentially by a cougar (although this has never been recorded.)  All this and only an 8 minute drive to downtown Courtenay!

People who visit our school (parents, teachers on call, other school groups, visitors of all kinds) often comment on the friendly, happy, welcoming, warm, relaxed atmosphere in the building / at the school.  We have a great and active PAC, with about 12 parents who attend monthly meetings on a regular basis and who coordinate most of the PAC activities.  We have a School Planning Council of 3 parents, one teacher, and the Principal who work together to monitor school improvement.  Our teachers are dedicated, hard working, knowledgeable, with a reasonable mix of newer and more experienced individuals with a variety of personal areas of expertise outside of pedagogy.  We at Huband pride ourselves in promoting and setting an example in active and healthy living for children and adults, and in caring for the environment.  We have daily physical education and daily physical activity for all classes while we also strive for and set high standards for academic success.
